New Hope Rescue
SOPHIA
Here is a very, very special girl looking for a new home! Sophia is a Himalayan kitty who is an absolute LOVE
BUG!!! She wants nothing more than to be held, cuddled, and loved on for as long as you are willing to!! She
has a tragic past; she was once a very well loved indoor kitty. When her adoring owner passed away, the
family did not want Sophia and threw her outdoors and refused to feed her. At six years old, she found her
self outside, starving and cold for the first time in her life. Terrified, she found her way to a neighbor's house.
Here she started stealing dog food from their dog to survive; the people tolerated her presence, but wouldn't
let her inside or provide shelter or proper food and before long Sophia ended up infested with fleas, her once
beautiful long fur matted to the skin, and she began suffering from an upper respitory infection. Another
neighbor, deciding she was a nuisance, started shooting at her when she crossed his yard and set out rat
poison in canned cat food. A co-worker of the person with the dog heard her story and called us.

Sophia was a terrible sight when she came to us; her fur was so badly matted that her skin underneath had
become infected and raw. She was terribly skinny but the very first thing we heard when we scooped her up
was her purr... despite everything, Sophia has never lost her love of people and the only thing she wanted
was to be held tight, despite the soreness of her skin. She had to be shaved all over her body, but now her
skin can heal and she will no doubt soon be the gorgeous, long haired beauty she once was!

There is a problem with Sophia that is going to make her harder to adopt. She is FIV positive, which means
that she should not be exposed to outdoor cats. She needs a safe, indoor only home that will love her
unconditionally and never let her suffer like she has again. Generally, cats who test positive for FIV are
euthanized because of the difficulty of finding them a home... but Sophia's sweet, constant purr and the way
she stands up on her back feet, asking to be picked up and held, have made this decision impossible for us so
far. She is so special... isn't there someone who can give her her life back?

She is currently housed in one of our volunteers' bathrooms. This is no life for her, and we know it. So please
help us spread the word about this one-in-a-million girl so she can find her forever home!!!
That little tongue
always sticks out!!
Just pick
me up and
love me!!!
Her poor skin, after she was shaved... she
must have been in so much pain under that
matted, filthy fur!!
Someone please love me...
none of this is my fault!!!
SOPHIA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

She is continuing to blossom in her new home
and we are so grateful to Chris and Lauren for
giving her a chance!!
